In 2002 RVIC established a variety assessment collection.
New varieties are added to the collection each year. The collection is currently comprised of over 50 new or alternative varieties.
The aim of the collection is to identify alternative varieties that can be grown successfully in the hot Riverland region.
Since 2012 RVIC have planted new varieties for assessment including many proprietary imports.
Airen, Albarino, Arinto, Jaen (Mencia), Macabeu, Prieto Picudo, Prosecco, Sercial, Negroamaro, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Caiada, Verdejo, Viosinho.
